CTSAMM should engage more locally – civil society

Author : | Published: Monday, October 24, 2016

Non-political stakeholders to the peace agreement have called on ceasefire and transitional security monitors, CTSAMM, to develop liaisons and engagement mechanisms at the local levels.
They include the civil society, women, youth, faith-based groups, academics and the business society.

The activists say having representatives that will be based in communities will allow for trust among the members and ease transmission of information to the CTSAMM.

The Non-political Stakeholders were speaking at a three day workshop organized by CTSAMM to find ways of improving the work of CTSSAM in accordance to the peace agreement.

“We are saying CTSAMM should enhance their presence and visibility in different parts of the country so as to provide easy accessibility for non-political South Sudanese stakeholders,” said Merekaje Lorna, a representative of the Civil Society.

The Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan, Fisseha Shawl, says for CTSAMM to carry out its mandate, all stakeholders to the peace agreement have to cooperate.

“The implementation is troubled with challenges for all actors including CTSAMM. However, the challenges require the good will of all to be overcome,” he said.
