Court sentences foreign teacher to 5yrs in prison for molesting todler

The Juvenile Court in Juba has served a female Kenyan teacher with a five-year jail term for molesting a three-year-old schoolgirl.

26-year-old Emily Kiroyia Nakuru, a teacher at Mercy Britain International school was arrested on the 31st of March for allegedly assaulting an unnamed toddler.

The court found her guilty of cruelty and abuse against the child.

Convict Nakuru is punished under sections 243, and 22 of the South Sudan 2008 Penal Code and Child Act respectively.

She is also to pay a fine of 700,000 South Sudanese Pounds in reparation to the victim.

“[The court [ sentenced convict Emily Kiroyia Nakuru to five years in imprisonment effective from the date of her arrest, on 31st of March 2022 for violation of section 243 of the South Sudan Penal Act read together with section 22 of the South Sudan child act 2008.” Andrew Joshua Ladu, the presiding judge read out the verdict yesterday [Wednesday].

“The convict must pay the survivor amount of 700.000 SSP as restitution”

The convict through her lawyers has two weeks to appeal against the verdict.
