Two Counties setup community policing units-Lakes

Authorities in Lakes State say two Counties have established new administration police units.

Early this month, Lakes State caretaker Governor said the state was in the process of forming community policing in 53 payams in a bid to reduce the rampant insecurity there.

The state acting minister of Information, Dhieu Wal, told Eye Radio that units of community policing have been established in two Counties of Rumbek Centre and Rumbek East.

“…they have been established in two counties of Rumbek Centre and Rumbek East. The selection is already done and they are doing their duties now. What remains is the training, which has not yet started, because that one will happen after the whole state is covered.”Wal said.

He said the youth who form the community policing or administrative police units will work as volunteers.

“They are not going to be on pay list. So they are not going to be paid. If there is anything like that, it is something that needs to be discussed with the Central Government [in Juba] first. But now they are working as volunteers in their respective places.” The Acting State Information Minster clarified.

They will help maintain security in the state, and carry out a peaceful disarmament exercise.
