Committee formed to review teachers’ salaries

The Ministry of Education has formed a committee to review salaries of teachers.

A primary school teacher receives an average of 300 pounds per month while a secondary school teacher gets 850 pounds.

The undersecretary in the ministry, Michael Lopuke, says the committee will address teachers’ complaints of low salaries.

“This committee includes all states ministry of finance, public services and the national parliament to look into how the salaries of the teachers can be adjusted,” Mr Lopuke said.

An assessment done by the Ministry of Education in 2013 found that teachers across the country were leaving their profession for better paying jobs with various organizations.
