The Commissioner of Yei County is urging humanitarian organizations to provide food assistance to people who have fled to Yei.

Commissioner Juma David Augustine told Eye Radio that prices have gone up in Yei market due to high demand.

“I am asking the humanitarian organizations to come to the aid of these disgruntled citizens, people who are already suffering because of one reason or another, people who cannot cater for their own children,” Mr Augustine said.

“Some of these people ran from Juba without carrying either enough money or enough food. They are only running to safeguard their lives, the situation has made people move beyond Yei to Uganda,” he added.

Commissioner Juma urged negotiators in Addis Ababa to put the people of South Sudan first in order to end the crisis.

“All the stakeholders who are negotiating in Addis Ababa should really put the people first. Let them not argue in their own interest. Let them put the poor people of the Republic of South Sudan first. All of us in South Sudan need only one thing and that is peace,” he said.

Commissioner Juma urged local and international media houses in South Sudan to produce reports of the highest editorial standards.
