The governor of Jonglei State has brought back the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry to office, having suspended him for more than a year since January 2022.
John Chuol Malou is a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance appointed to the state ministerial position by President Salva Kiir in February 2021.
Governor Chagor then suspended him in January 2022, without citing the reason(s) – but pointed out his constitutional powers.
However, a gubernatorial decree issued on Friday, April 14, 2023, Chagor returned Chuol to his position.
“I, Denay Jock Chagor, Governor of Jonglei State do hereby lift the suspension of Hon. John Chuol Malou to resume his duties as Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry in Jonglei State with immediate effect from April 14, 2023 AD,” read the order.
Both Minister Chuol and Governor Chagor hail from the SSOA coalition.
