JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) – The Central Equatoria State Women’s Union has donated food and non-food items to lactating mothers at Al Sabah Children’s Hospital and Juba Teaching Hospital, in a gesture aimed at supporting mothers recovering after childbirth.

The donation, which took place on Saturday, October 11, included sanitary pads, soaps, biscuits, and sugar, among other essential items meant to assist the mothers before they are discharged from the hospitals.

Speaking during the handover, representatives from the Women’s Union said the initiative was part of their ongoing efforts to support vulnerable women and mothers in health facilities across the state.

They noted that many new mothers face challenges in accessing basic hygiene and nutritional supplies after delivery, and such small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in their recovery.

Mothers from both hospitals expressed their gratitude to the women’s union, acknowledging the support as crucial for their hygiene.

A mother from Al Sabah Children’s Hospital says the items, especially soap, will help them wash their bedsheets and hence reduce their financial burdens.

Hospital staff at both facilities expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the support would help ease the burden on mothers, especially those from low-income backgrounds.

The Central Equatoria State Women’s Union reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with health institutions and partners to promote women’s welfare, maternal health, and community solidarity in the state.
