Authorities in Central Equatoria State have suspended the activities of Go-Green East Africa – a company contracted by the City Council to collect garbage in Juba.

The decision to stop the private company from cleaning the city residential areas comes amid the ongoing court dispute with another company.

Moro Isaac, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement IN Central Equatoria State said the City Council will take over the garbage collection duty indefinitely.

However, Minister Isaac didn’t disclose information about the court verdict or when the company will resume work again

“We are here to decide as Local Government Authority, that Go-Green company operation is suspended until further notice and the city council will take charge of the company’s duties,” Moro told reporters at the City Council headquarters in Juba Saturday.

“The (city council) will take over the health and sanitation as well as to clean up the city and provide the services that the citizens require.”

“As the government, this is our obligation to provide this service to our people and whoever tries to interfere with this responsibility will be held responsible.”

In January 2022, the Municipal Council contracted the East Africa Go Green company to undertake a privatized collection of garbage and beautification of the country’s capital.

However, the company is battling a court case about an alleged breach of contract of a two-point-five million US dollars loan from the Simon Trading Company.
