Ceasefire monitors reach Yei

Author : | Published: Thursday, December 1, 2016

The ceasefire and transitional security say they have finally arrived in Yei town.

The announcement came a day after the team said it was blocked on Monday at a checkpoint in Juba from accessing the area.

In a statement, the CTSAMM said they were allowed to travel to the area after multiple discussions with government authorities.

“The CTSAMM team [has] now successfully carried out their journey and reached Yei Town today [Wednesday], the 30th November, 2016,” partly read the statement.  “The team will now undertake a five day mission in the area.”

According to Chapter II of ARCSS, the monitoring group is an investigative body mandated to monitor compliance and report directly to the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission on the progress of the implementation of the Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements.
