Cavendish University closes in Juba

Author : | Published: Tuesday, January 26, 2016

The East African-based Cavendish University has closed its branch in Juba due to misunderstandings in the management.

James Ajoung, a former administrator at the university said the misunderstanding occurred when an American company bought all shares of the university despite an agreement reached with the local management.

Mr. Ajoung said they were not involved in the deal

He said: “Those who bought the university are called ECP, that Is Emergency Capital Partner. During our meeting, they say we Americans have our own way of doing things, so we may decide to cooperate with you or not to cooperate with you. So last year in October and they disagreed and they bought all the shares.”

James Ajuong said the local administration is considering registering the university under a new name to be affiliated to the Ugandan-based Busoga University

Howvever, some students at the university who spoke Eye Radio said they were unhappy with the changes.

“I am not feeling good about it because the things I wanted about Cavendish, I am not going to get again; the privileges that I was to get. I love Cavendish much, because of its systems, one; it was being run in three semesters a year, making me to complete my GP in short term,” said Deng Madit, who used to be an economics student at the university.

Another student, Maker said; “Particularly I am not happy. We were eager to Study because South Sudan has been lacking education for long, so we are not happy about this, I am not happy.”

The branch of Cavendish University which was operating in South Sudan was an extension of the main campus based in Kampala, Uganda.

It is affiliated to Cavendish International Limited, London.
