The Council of Ministers Friday approved the extension of extended the mandate of the National Constitutional Amendment Committee until October this year to enable it to complete pending asks.
NCAC was formed by parties to the 2018 peace agreement to lay the legal framework for the pre-transitional and transitional reforms.
Its mandate extension was approved this week upon the request of the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Rueben Madol Arol.
Information Minister Michael Makuei says the body has seven laws still pending amendment while its mandate runs out later this month.
“The National Constitutional Amendment Committee’s period is ending at the end of this month and it has not yet completed its work. There are seven laws that are still pending,” Makuei told the media after the cabinet meeting Friday.
“So the Minister of Justice requested the cabinet to extend the NCAC and the cabinet approved the extension of the NCAC period which is ending at the end of this month for another four months to enable them to complete the tasks in time.”
