The Council of Ministers has approved more than $120,000 for the Ministry of Wildlife, Conservation, and Tourism to classify hotels across South Sudan.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, announced on Friday, December 20, that the Council of Ministers has approved $127,000 for the classification of hotels across South Sudan.

This initiative, led by the Ministry of Wildlife, Conservation, and Tourism, aims to standardize hotel facilities, ensuring fair pricing aligned with the hotel’s class and standards.

According to Makuei, the project will promote transparency and consistency within the hospitality sector, addressing long-standing issues related to hotel classifications.

“Here in South Sudan, we have not classified the hotels.  Everybody comes and he brings his hotels and he calls it whatever, meanwhile hotels are supposed to be classified so that when you are paying, you are paying according to the class of that hotel and the standard,” stated Makuei.

“This was to clarify the issues of catering and standardization, and for facilities to be classified this will cost the ministry the sum of $127,000,” he said.
