Cabinet approves $1.7m for 2024 world veteran’s conference in Juba

The Council of Ministers has approved nearly two million dollars for the World Veteran’s Federation conference which Juba will host for the first time in 2024.

This is according to Michael Makuei Lueth, the minister of information and government spokesperson.

He said the conference would be held in South Sudan after the World Veterans Federation requested for it.

The World Veterans Federation is an international non-profit, non-governmental umbrella veteran organization, with a mission to be the leading organization promoting well-being providing assistance and aid to veterans and victims of war and assisting the international community in the promotion of international peace and security.

Makuei said the conference is held annually in each country which has veterans, to discuss their affairs and concerns.

He added that it will be attended by the world’s wounded heroes and heroines and veterans of the liberation struggles.

Makuei spoke to journalists after the regular council of ministers, Chaired by President Salva Kiir in Juba this afternoon.

“The Republic of South Sudan to host the next World Veteran’s Federation conference in 2024, this presentation was made in accordance with the request presented to the government of South Sudan by the President of the veteran’s federation,” Makeui said.

‘They proposed that this conference should be held in South Sudan in 2024. After the deliberation, the cabinet accepted the request and there was a budget,” he said.

“The cost of the conference is 1,750,000 dollars, which was approved by the cabinet and the minister of finance and planning is directed to avail these funds accordingly.”
