A bushfire has destroyed a number of houses and food warehouses in Kapoeta East County.

Residents have been left homeless and in need of assistance.

The Eastern Equatoria state Minister of Information says the number of people affected by the fire has not been established.

Clement Laku Chichim told Eye Radio such incidents are common, especially during the dry season.

“Actually, it can happen and it can come from any corner like any other place,” he said. “It is not intentional because now it is the dry season and people are burning here and there.”

Kapoeta East County has suffered poor crop harvest for the last three years.
