Pope Francis touches down in South Sudan

The Papal plane carrying Pope Francis has just landed At Juba International Airport Friday afternoon, in a historic moment signifying the first visit of a pope to the world’s youngest nation.

The Pontiff descended the plane stairs on his wheelchairs before shaking hands with President Salva Kiir.

Then a group of children presented doves to the Pope who let it fly before walking with President Kiir on the red carpet.

He will head to the Presidential Palace to meet the country’s leaders; President Kiir, his five deputies, diplomats and other officials.

He departed the Ndjili International Airport in Kinshasa, DR Congo at 10:49 AM Central African Time, according to the Vatican News.

Francis arrived in his Blue Papal Plane with the Archbishop Welby and Moderator General of Scottish Church.
