Bor fishmongers warned against ‘discouraging’ donors

The abandonment of Bor fish market by businesspeople will discourage donors, the state Relief and Rehabilitation Commission has warned.

On Friday, fishmongers told Eye radio that most of them have abandoned the business.

They were selling at a donor-funded Fish Center.

The women abandoned the business after the Mayor of Bor Town, Akim Ajieth, issued an order reducing the price of fresh and dry fish in the market.

They also said they were being prevented from getting fish directly from fishermen in the town.

The RRC deputy Director, James Jok Alier, says the move will discourage donors.

“The only thing which can make them happy is when we see the businesswomen who were doing business around there perform well around the center,” Mr Jok stressed.

“Then it will motivate them because…the principle of donation always is to see into it that the donation has met the intended purpose.”

The Fish Center in Bor was constructed this year by Humanitarian Development Communique through funding from UNMISS.
