Three bodies of South Sudanese refugees who were killed early this week in a road accident in Uganda’s Adjumani District have been repatriated to the border town of Nimule.

That’s according to Major David Casemiro who is the Inspector of Police in Nimule town.

He told Eye Radio on Wednesday, October 25 that the South Sudanese refugees were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a vehicle on Monday in Dzaipi Sub-County of Adjumani District.

21-year-old Maliamungu Saviour who rode the motorcycle bearing plate number UEY 125 N and a woman he identified as Aduk Mawach, 53 died on the spot.

Another woman Nyibol Majak, 48, later succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Adjumani Hospital.

The Nimule police inspector says the suspect was arrested and the deceased families are following up the case with the Ugandan authorities.

“There was an incident that happened in Uganda between a motorcycle and a vehicle, and it involved South Sudanese who were travelling from Nimule to the refugee camp,” Casmiro narrated what happened.

“On their way back, the vehicle knocked them. Two died instantly but one woman died later in the hospital,” he said.

“I believe they will get justice though the incident happened in Uganda they’re working on the same law of the traffic.”

“The suspect was arrested though I don’t have the details of the information, but I believe it will proceed because the relatives of the deceased are following it there.”

The deceased have been reported to be neighbours in Nimule town.

Casemiro called on the families of the deceased to remain calm and patient as an investigation has been launched into the matter.

“My message to the public is that, this incident is a traffic incident, let them remain calm and patient because no one has an intention to kill someone intentionally,” said Casemiro.

“Everybody has his/her daytime on earth. when God says this is your last day, you’ll die in many ways such as a road accident, or even while sleeping but all attributed to death.”
