Russia has launched an attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, with explosions heard and smoke seen rising, BBC reports on Tuesday, as G20 leaders gather in Indonesia.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two residential buildings in the Pechersk district are among those hit.

World leaders are currently at a meeting of the G20 in Indonesia where they have condemned the war on Ukraine.

It marks the first such attack in over a week, during which time Russia withdrew troops from Kherson.

Mayor Klitschko added that several missiles were shot down over Kyiv, but it remains unclear whether there were any casualties, though Mr Klitschko said medics were at the scene of the missile strikes.

Sounds of air raid sirens were also heard across the entirety of Ukraine once again.
