Bia Kɛɛl Media: First Nuer language newspaper starts publication

Bia Kɛɛl Media, a local language newspaper registered with the Media Authority, started publication in Nuer Language on Thursday.

It is the first-ever Nuer language newspaper to go in publication.

Buay Hoth Reath – the paper’s editor said the introduction of Bia Keel Media newspaper is a significant step towards promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Nuer people.

“Also, it act as the meant of promoting literacy and education in the community,” he told Eye Radio.

“Naath people can now have access to news and information in their own language, which will help them to stay informed and connected with the rest of the world.”

Mr. Hoth said the introduction of newspaper in Thok Naath language is a contribution towards empowering local communities and giving them a voice.

He emphasized on the preservation of national languages especially at a time when “we live in a world where globalization is rapidly eroding linguistic diversity and cultural identity.”

“Therefore, the introduction of this newspaper in Thok Naath…. sends a powerful message that every language and culture has value and deserves to be respected and celebrated.
