The Minister of Foreign Affairs has traveled to Khartoum this morning to discuss the accusation by Sudan that South Sudan is supporting the Darfur rebels.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry, Ambassador Mawien Makol, says Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, will also discuss other bilateral issues with his Sudanese counterpart and other officials.

He told Eye Radio that the talks will focus on the Corporation Agreement between the two countries.

“Last two weeks there has been some kind of statement coming from Sudan and those statements, you know, we thought that it was good that the two countries engage themselves once more to try to calm down kind of statements to media that were so alarming and that Sudan and South Sudan, we have the Corporation Agreement going on between the two countries that need to be implemented.” Makol said.

Two weeks ago, the director of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services, Mohamed Atta, warned South Sudan against supporting and funding Sudanese rebels, particularly the Justice and Equality Movement.

The Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the statement.
