Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir has stated readiness to support the initiative to resolve the crisis in South Sudan.

During a meeting with the chairman of IGAD team, which is mediating the South Sudan peace, Ambassador Seyum Mesfin, in Khartoum yesterday, Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir affirmed his keenness to closely follow-up on the situation in South Sudan.

He said Sudan is ready to support the initiative and take part in all efforts being exerted by the IGAD to find radical solutions to the crisis in South Sudan in order to achieve lasting peace in the country.
IGAD envoy Ambassador Seyum delivered a message from the Ethiopian Prime Minister and the chairman of IGAD, Hailemariam Desalegn, to President El-Bashir on dealing with the progress of the mediation to resolve the crisis in South Sudan.

The IGAD envoy told the press in Khartoum after meeting President El-Bashir that he briefed El-Bashir on the outcome of the mediation process and he also sought his advice and guidance to push efforts forward.

He said consultations are continuing with the parties in South Sudan.

Ambassador Seyum said Ethiopian Prime Minister, Desalegn had already met with the leader of the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar, who expressed his readiness to cooperate with IGAD to address the conflict.

He said after completion of consultations, the chairman of IGAD, Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, will call a summit in Addis Ababa to find what he called a radical solution for the conflict in South Sudan.
Ambassador Seyum said they are now close more than ever to reaching an agreement to end the conflict in South Sudan, but he said efforts should continue to that end.
