Bari-Mundari peace dialogue slated for Friday

Author : | Published: Monday, June 1, 2015

A peace conference will be held this week to discuss how to move the remaining herds of cattle out of Juba, the Commissioner of Juba County has announced.

He says it will be held between Mundari and Bari communities of Central Equatoria state.

There have been tensions between the two cattle keeping, and farming communities.

Last month, the president issued an order, instructing all cattle to be moved out of the Equatoria Region to prevent further conflicts.

“We are trying to give them a message from the President that all cattle have to get back to their original places,” said Steven Wani, Juba County Commissioner.

“Besides the fact that the cattle from Terekeka are also livestock of Central Equatoria State, to minimize conflict, we thought that they should leave Juba County to Terekeka before law enforcement.”

The conference is expected to take place this Friday.
