The Ministry of Roads and Bridges has announced plans to repair key roads linking Juba with the Bahr el Ghazal region to improve connectivity and address challenges faced by communities.
According to the ministry, the plans include the repair of Bahr Naam Bridge in Yirol East County, along with eight other key bridges along the highway connecting the region to the capital.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday, the Director General for Planning and Policy Formulation in the ministry, Aduot Madit, said five bridges have already been constructed as part of ongoing efforts.
He added that the Minister is currently on a tour to inspect major road sections connecting Juba, Rumbek, Wau, Aweil and Kwajok.
“We understand that rains are coming and this year there are expected challenges, including flooding in some areas. The purpose is to ensure the Minister inspects the Bahr el Ghazal road network so that critical sections are addressed and the road remains passable. Several bridges, especially on the Juba–Rumbek route, are key, and some have already been rehabilitated,” he said.
He further said the ministry is implementing the work using its allocated funds to ensure roads remain accessible, especially during the rainy season.
