Bad weather affects flights to Aweil, Wau

Author : | Published: Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Flights to Aweil and Wau have been temporally suspended due to bad weather conditions, authorities of Juba International airport have said.

They say strong winds coming from the direction of Sudan and DR Congo have raised dust that has affected air visibility.

“At this time in Sudan, there are lots of dust storms. So areas in the border are affected by anything happening like that,” said Kur Kuol Kur, director at the Juba International airport.

“We’ve problem with some airstrips like Aweil which is not tarmac but it is made up of marram. So such weather plus the airstrip condition has affected activities there.”

As a result, passengers traveling to the two towns have had their flights cancelled since Monday.

Kur Kuol said fights will resume when the visibility improves.
