The Aweil Youth Union (AYU) has announced plans to hold a community dialogue forum in Juba on 7 June aimed at discussing grievances and promoting unity within the Aweil community.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in Juba on Thursday ahead of the event, which is scheduled to take place at Golden Orichit Hall.

According to the union, the forum, titled “Aweil Youth Forum for Addressing Grievances and Strengthening Community Unity,” will bring together elders, women, youth, intellectuals, community leaders and peace advocates to discuss issues affecting the community and explore possible solutions.

AYU officials said the gathering comes amid concerns over growing tensions, misunderstandings and disagreements within sections of the community, including disputes that have increasingly played out on social media platforms.

Speaking on behalf of the union’s leadership, Secretary General Alvarado Aguer Diing said the forum is intended to provide a platform for dialogue and reconciliation.

The union said discussions would focus on peaceful coexistence, mutual respect among communities, strengthening unity within the Aweil community, and encouraging dialogue as a means of resolving differences.

Organizers maintained that the event is not intended to promote conflict or division but rather to encourage constructive engagement among community members.

AYU also appealed to members of the Aweil community, peace advocates and well-wishers to participate in the forum.

In its statement, the union called on young people to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, reject hate speech and support peaceful coexistence.

The youth body further acknowledged the support of elders and community members who have backed initiatives aimed at promoting peace and social harmony.

The forum comes as community organizations and civil society groups continue to explore dialogue-based approaches to addressing disputes and strengthening social cohesion in South Sudan.
