The HealthNet TPO on Saturday renovated a primary healthcare center in Aweil West County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

The center is expected to benefit more than 40,000 people in the area and will offer Outpatient Department services, known as OPD, maternal and child health services.

The renovation of the center started in January this year after it was blown up in April last year.

Julius Opio, the organization’s Program Manager said that the renovated healthcare units, which cost over 26,000 dollars, will be operated by healthcare workers from the state government in NBGs.

“We have just completed the renovation of one of the primary health care unit which was blown off by heavy rains and wind and we are organizing to hand over that facility to the community,” Opio said.

The humanitarian worker also said his organization will provide COVID-19 vaccination service to the community.

“The capacity is one level below the primary health care center it provides basically the OPD services and mental child health services. This facility serves the whole Payam and is going to benefit around 43,200 people in Aweil West county or involve the general population specifically the mothers and the children.”

Before the renovation of the clinic, patients were being treated under trees and pregnant women used to walk long distant to access maternal healthcare.

But the organization says with the renovation of the center, the community will access healthcare service in a better environment and within reach.

The health sector in South Sudan is largely supported by humanitarian partners.

However, in April 2022, an official at the Ministry of Health said at least eight major hospitals across the country were to be affected after the Health Pooled Fund-South Sudan began to scale down its activities.
