The SPLM second Deputy Chairperson has disclosed that finance ministry jobs were intentionally given to Aweil sons in 2005 to pay back lives they lost during the liberation struggle.
Daniel Awet Akot made the remarks during the launch of Arthur Akuein’s book in Juba on Sunday, October 8.
He says during the liberation war, he commanded thousands of Aweil sons in the SPLA and they liberated most of the towns in the Bahr el Ghazal region.
While the government of Southern Sudan was being formed in 2005, Awet says, he made sure that the Ministry of Finance was given to Aweil’s son.
“Malual both Anyar [Malual is second to buffalo] is true indeed, and that is why when the government was formed, it was me who formed the government of 2005, the government of Southern Sudan, and I said number, minister of finance to Aweil,” Awet said.
“I was later transferred to Rumbek, but when a reshuffle was made, I flew to Juba and was told Akuein was removed, I said again… let it be Kuol Athian,” he said.
“I did this because we were paying back to the people of Aweil, their sons died a lot, many of them were killed during the war, and others died of hunger.”
