Authorities in Warrap State have arrested nearly 200 suspected members of teenage gang groups during an ongoing security crackdown in the state capital, Kuajok.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Wednesday (December 17, 2025), Mamer Bath said the arrests were part of a security operation that started this week to ensure safety and order during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The minister said 191 suspected youth gang members were arrested after authorities received multiple reports of gang-related crimes, including mobile phone snatching, theft, robbery, and violent fights involving weapons around Kuajok Market.
“Last month, there were reports of criminal activities in the market, including phone snatching and other offenses involving youths. This exercise was not carried out with bad intentions, but to restore order and safety in the town. During the operation, about 191 young people suspected of involvement in criminal activities were arrested,” he said.
Bath added that underage suspects have been identified and transferred to safe care units under the supervision of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, while adult suspects remain in custody and will face disciplinary and legal procedures.
“Underage suspects were identified and taken to care centres under the supervision of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, while adult suspects were detained and placed in jail for disciplinary and legal action,” he added.
The minister also urged residents to cooperate with security forces as the operation continues.
