An Aid agency rehabilitating the dyke in Twic East County of Jonglei State has suspended its construction works due to the growing insecurity in the neighboring Pibor County. The dike collapsed last year during raining season, leaving the population in fear of displacement when the rains come. Last month, the authorities expressed concern that flooding is threatening the lives of over 70,000 people in Twic East County.
In response to this call, a humanitarian agency, ASCOM, offered to renovate the dyke. Twic East County Commissioner Dau Akoi spoke to Eye Radio today. The militia forces loyal to the insurgent David Yau Yau, who are now in control of some parts of Buma town, are a major threat to development in Jonglei state.
