Roads Ministry in talks with Chinese investors to build Juba–Torit–Nadapal highway

The Ministry of Roads and Bridges has initiated discussions with Chinese investors to fund and construct the Juba–Torit–Nadapal Highway.

National Minister of Roads and Bridges Peter Lam Both confirmed the talks upon returning to Juba from Nairobi, Kenya, where he met with representatives from China Road and Bridge Corporation and project financiers.

The Minister stated that he traveled to Nairobi to discuss building the Juba–Nadapal road.

“I went on Wednesday to have a meeting with some potential investors on the road construction, especially Juba–Nadapal Road. We have had discussions with China Road and Bridge Corporation and some potential funders for that road,” Lam said.

He stated that the Chinese investors will travel to South Sudan to meet the President and government officials to finalize funding plans.

“They will be able to meet His Excellency the President, and they will also meet with the Ministry of Roads and Bridges and the Ministry of Mining because some of the funding formulas might involve the Ministry of Mining. We are hopeful that these engagements will be able to help us secure some of the road investment that we need to have.”

Minister Lam appealed to citizens to respect foreign investors and maintain order.

“We want to appeal to our people that when the investment environment is conducive for public-private partnerships, more and more investors will come. But if we mistreat investors, they cannot come. So, it is the responsibility of both the government and our public that they need to respect the investors because that is the only way we can develop our country.”
