Appeal to Buma & Jonglei governors on insecurity

Author : | Published: Friday, January 29, 2016

The Commissioner of Twic East County has appealed to Jonglei and Boma State authorities to establish a joint system to reduce the increasing insecurity in the region.

The appeal comes after months of several attacks in the area, especially raids for cattle.

Dau Akoi says at least six people have been killed since the beginning of this year. Another person was wounded yesterday by criminals at Pakou cattle camp.

He called on the two governors to form a traditional scheme of holding perpetrators accountable.

“Some of them have been identified… the survivors also tell us, and we have identified some of them. So we appeal that the governors try to talk to the administrators and traditional authority at least prevent these criminals’ acts,” said Mr. Dau.

Peace conferences in the past have failed to resolve conflicts between communities in the two states, because they are in most cases not fully implemented.
