Author : | Published: Friday, June 6, 2014

A prominent Anyanya war veteran and former diplomat to Eastern European countries is calling upon the government and the SPLM-in Opposition to embrace peace and stop the fighting.

Ambassador General Andrew Makur, who also served in the High Executive Council of the Southern Regional government in the 1970s, is among 3 former civil servants invited by IGAD.

He is one of the eminent personalities, who will take part in the stakeholders’ forum. He said the killing must end.

“There is no country where people kill themselves and people just watch without stopping it,” Amb Makur told Eye Radio in Addis Ababa.

He also said there must be accountability for those who have committed crimes in order to discourage impunity in South Sudan.

“If we were to have accountability for whoever makes a mistake, other people would have not even tried to do the same mistake,” he added.

Ambassador General Andrew Makur also called for the institutionalization of democratic principles and good governance in South Sudan.

He said the negotiators should use the lessons of the past to resolve future crisis.
