The deputy chief mediator of the Kenya-led South Sudan peace process Ambassador Mohamed Guyo has announced that the Tumaini peace initiative will resume in Nairobi in mid-January 2025.
Speaking to the media in Nairobi on Friday afternoon, Ambassador Guyo urged all stakeholders to keep up the momentum and prioritize the aspirations of South Sudan’s citizens.
This came after Puot Kang, the deputy head of the government delegation stated that they are taking a brief break for consultations with leadership in Juba before resuming discussions, and the talks have not collapsed.
But, the spokesperson of the South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance Lual Dau says the Tumaini peace initiative has reached a deadlock.
However, the deputy chief mediator to the Tumaini peace initiative stated that significant progress had been made.
“While significant progress has been made the government delegation of South Sudan has requested a temporary adjournment to return to Juba for further consultations,” Amb. Guyo stated.
“The mediation will resume in mid-January 2025 in Nairobi, the Tumaini initiative its remained committed to fostering an inclusive and lasting peace for the people of South Sudan,” he said.
“We urge all stakeholders to maintain momentum and prioritize the aspiration of South Sudan citizens for unity, stability and development.”
