South Sudan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is in the Norwegian capital Oslo to attend an international conference on children in armed conflict.

Deng Dau Deng Malek left Juba on Saturday June 3, for the conference that will commence from the 5th–6th of this month.

Dau was invited to the conference by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, with other regional and continental foreign ministers.

Speaking to the media at Juba Airport, he said South Sudan will use the conference to remind the International Community that it no longer recruits child soldiers.

“This particular conference is in relation to children in armed conflict. South Sudan is among a few countries in Africa that have been invited to attend this conference. We as a country signed an action plan,” Dau said.

“We have removed all the children from the army. I want to justify to the international community through this forum that what has been said is not correct. I am representing the country in this two-day meeting.”

According to Dau, the government has signed an Action Plan on Children in Armed Conflict and has removed children from the Army.
