A member of the National Parliament is calling for the allocation of more funds to the education sector.

Honorable Akol Paul Khordit, who is also the chairperson of the SPLM Youth League, said only through education can young people be empowered.

He told Eye Radio that youth parliamentarians will push for reforms within the education sector.

“We in the national parliament have very strong lobby group of youth caucus there, and we are trying to ensure that the budget of education is near to the budget of defense, because the first goal of the government after peace is education,” said Mr Akol.

“Through education, we will gain a lot of things; we can fight tribalism and nepotism.

“Right now there are people who have put their relatives with no qualifications into the offices, and those with certificates are seated by the roadside drinking tea because they don’t have people in the government to give them the chance to work.”

He called upon the youth to shun tribalism and promote peaceful coexistence across the country.
