Imatong’s orphanage enjoy relative calm

Author : | Published: Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Calm has returned to Moti area where fighting disrupted activities of a children’s home recently, the Imatong Governor said.

Early this month, the founder of Hope for South Sudan orphanage, said about 300 children were trapped on a battlefield between government and opposition forces in the area on the outskirts of Torit town.

Mr. Romano Ogumo said armed groups would fire heavy machine guns just a few meters away from the center.

Some of the children are as young as 4 years old.

After his visit to the area yesterday, Governor Tobiolo Alberio said the children have resumed their classes.

“As the government of Imatong state, we shall not allow anything to happen to those children,” he told Eye Radio in Torit. “We shall continue to protect the workers and encourage those who are giving services to them.”

On Monday, UNMISS in a tweet confirmed that the children’s home was secure.

It said peacekeepers had been visiting the center to monitor the situation.
