Hundreds of Muslims have gathered in Juba for prayers marking the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Eid Al Fitir.

Last evening, Saudi Arabia and some Islamic Countries announced that today is the first day of Eid el Fitir el Mubarak.

The faithfuls have been fasting for the last 30 days. At the occasion in Konyo-konyo, Al sheikh Juma Tombe called for peace.

“We ask almighty God to make this Eid e for peace, reconciliation and forgiveness, as government mentioned that they will resume the talks,” Al Sheikh Juma said.

“We raise our hands asking God to join them with other side and bring peace for us, because we really need peace.”

Some of the religious leaders have also called for tolerance.

Shiekh Hamdan beni Shakerin says Islam is a religion for peace and love.

“In this occasion of Eid al Fitr al Mubarak I wish the best to all Muslims in South Sudan and the world at large, and through this radio, I send this message that Islamic religion is for mercy, joy, and love.”

Similar prayers are being held in Aweil, the state capital of Northern Bahr al-Ghazal State.

Meanwhile, Vice President James Wani Igga says the presidency is discussing the quota of South Sudanese Muslims in the next government.

Mr. Wani says the Muslims deserve their share in all levels of the government, arguing that 30 percent of SPLA soldiers during the liberation war were Muslims.

The vice president told thousands of Muslims who gathered at the dinner for Ramadan in Juba last evening, that their representation will be considered in the next government.

Mr. Wani contributed 30 thousand US dollars to help facilitate the Islamic Council of South Sudan to visit Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.

He urged Muslim communities in the country to discuss the challenges facing them in traveling to Haj pilgrim in Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
