At least eight people were killed and two others wounded in sectional clashes in Cueibet County of Lakes State earlier this week.

The Minister of Information in the state, Dhiew Wol, says two youth groups clashed on Monday in Tiaptiap Payam.

“The dead include five women and a child,” he added.

He says the fighting was a revenge for a similar attack in July last year. Police are pursuing the suspects.

Lakes often faces such attacks and killings. Last year, the National Legislative Assembly reported that over 500 people were killed in 2014.

Lawmakers blame the situation on proliferation of arms in the hands of civilians, mostly pastoralists.
