Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a motorcyclist two weeks ago in Torit County in Eastern Equatoria state, a sub-chief has confirmed.

The unnamed boda-boda rider was ambushed and killed along the Torit-Hiyala road on June 6.

A sub-chief of Haforiere in Eastern Equatoria state, Patrick Haitai Ohide said the suspects were arrested over the weekend allegedly on the orders of Torit County Commissioner.

“It happened on April 6, when one person was killed, the suspect was arrested and transferred to Torit Main prison,” Ohide said.

“Two months later, another four youth was arrested in connection to the killing under the commissioner’s directives in my absence.”

However, Chief Ohide calls for the rule of law saying, the arrests have caused tension in the area.

“We are tasking the youth of Haforiere to arrest and surrender the criminals who were involved in the killing,” he said.

“We are following it in that way and the Monyomiji said they are going to apprehend them, so we are just giving them one week.”

Meanwhile, the local chief has appealed to the area youth not to take the law into their hands and leave to matter to the government.

When contacted, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Peter Lokeng Lotone says, he is not aware of the arrest.

Minister Lotone says he tried to contact the commissioner over the matter, but his phone was unreachable.

“I have not received any information like that nether from the commissioner of Haforiere. I have been calling the commissioner, but his numbers are offline,” said Lotone.
