41-year-old woman killed in Yambio lightning strike

A 41-year-old woman was killed in lightning strike during an unusual thunderstorm in Yambio County in Western Equatoria State on Monday, according to the family.

The deceased is identified as Ruzita Augustino, a cleaner at the state secretariat, who is survived by seven children.

The deceased’s nephew Isaac Christopher said the incident occurred on Monday at 7pm when Ruzita was gathered with her children in the room as the rain started.

Christopher added that as the victim was in indoors when a thunder strike hit the room leaving it in smoke.

He explained that few minutes after the incident, the elder daughter discovered that her mother was hit and started shouting, calling on the neighbors.

According to Isaac, the late Ruzita was rushed to the hospital but died before receiving medical treatment.

“She was well with her children at home and all the family, then reaching 7pm the rain started and all of them rushed inside the room,” he narrated to Eye Radio.

“There was a serious lightning and thunder and the elder daughter explained to us that they just saw a smoke and after few minutes, she found out that her mother was lying down.”

“The elder daughter started shouting and calling on the neighbors so people came and she was rushed to the hospital just few minutes reaching the hospital they found out she was dead already.”

Isaac described the late as a humble person who was a committed to her job.
