3 killed in Abyei latest attack

Misseriya militias have killed three people in a fresh attack on Abyei last night, according to the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Amb Mawien Makol says cows were also stolen in the attack last night.

He says UNISFA forces mandated to provide security in the area managed to recover 75 cows this morning.

He claims that the Sudanese government is behind the attacks.

“Those militias are supported by the government of Khartoum,” said Amb Makol. “We are asking the government of Sudan to refrain from that.”

This is the second attack on Abyei in less than a week. On Sunday, Misseriya militias and Sudanese army personnel attacked Lou Village, killing four people.

The Sudanese authorities could not comment on the matter.

Abyei is contested by both Sudan and South Sudan. The two parties have not agreed on how to conduct a vote to determine the status of the region.
