The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission says it has identified key areas of interest to help in analyzing challenges affecting security in the country.

The development was made by its Strategic Defense and Security Review board, composed of security experts representing various sectors in the country.

In a statement, the JMEC says the board held its first workshop last week, focusing on strategic assessment security in the country.

It says the assessment involves examining the historical context and current challenges impacting the security of the nation.

“Moving forward, the Board will continue this analysis as it seeks information from the relevant institutions to include, for example, data on security forces (pending the cantonment of forces per the ARCRSS), national economy and demography, and other factors that influence the defence and security environment,” the statement partly reads.

The information include data on security forces confirmed to be in cantonment as stated in the peace agreement, national economy, and demography, among other defence and security matters.

The Strategic Defense and Security Review board was formed as a provision in the agreement to resolve the conflict, and chaired by Madam Angelina Teny.

Its duties are to develop a holistic strategic security assessment, security policy framework, revised defense policy, recommended security force structure and budget, and a security sector transformation roadmap.

This also includes the unification of security forces. The Strategic Defense and Security Review board started implementing its mandate this month.
