E Guinea exact revenge on South Sudan
Equatorial Guinea turned on the style late on to thump South Sudan 4-0 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo on Sunday evening.
For the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations hosts, the result goes some way in making up for the defeat they suffered in Juba almost exactly a year ago.
A 1-0 win for South Sudan on home soil over Equatorial Guinea 12 months ago marked their first ever competitive victory. At the time, the latter were ranked 100 places above the young nation.
Three points ensures a third place finish for Nzalang Nacional in Group C, subsequently condemning ‘Bright Star’ to bottom spot with Mali set to advance to the showpiece in Gabon as group winners.
The quartet of Jose Miranda, Emilio Nsue, Carlos Akapo and Ivan Iyanga found the back of the net for Equatorial Guinea as they secured their first win in six matches.
For South Sudan the search for their first ever competitive away win continues.
