17-year-old girl kills younger brother at Juba IDPs camp

A teenage girl stabbed and killed her 15-year-old brother at Juba’s Internally Displaced Persons Camp on Thursday evening, the national police said.

South Sudan Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin said the teenage girl fought with her brother on Thursday resulting in the fatal incident.

He told Eye Radio said the deceased body was taken to a mortuary while the suspect is being held at a police station.

“A girl of 17 years and her brother of 15 years old fought, and she stabbed her brother to death. But the girl felt fainted and they brought her to the police station,” Justin narrated to Eye Radio.

“She was taken to the hospital and the dead body to the mortuary and this is what happened yesterday (Thursday) in PoC and we are investigating it.”

General Justin neither disclosed the names of the deceased and the suspect – nor the cause of the fight.

However, in a WhatsApp statement extended to Eye Radio, a family member said the teenager was angered by her 15-year-old brother while she was cutting the onion.

The eyewitness said this was after the victim questioned about where she was gone during the day.

He said the boy suspected her sister was with a boyfriend in the PoC.

During an altercation, his sister stabbed him, and he died 15 minutes later.

In a similar but separate incident, General Daniel Justin also said another 36-year-old was knifed at the Jamus Playground in Juba on the same day.

“Also, in Jamus playground, there a 36 old man was knifed by an unknown person. We took the dead body and now we are doing the process.”
