At least 11 people have been killed in an attack by armed men in Kaya, at the border with Uganda, Yei River State Information Minister has told Eye Radio.

According to Stephen Ladu, the gunmen attacked the area on Wednesday morning.

Mr Ladu says these were forces loyal to Dr Riek Machar.

“They just came and attacked Kaya…and managed to kill two policemen,” he stated.

“It is suspected that from the armed group, nine were killed.”

However, Mr Ladu said the security situation is now relatively calm.

For his part, the Deputy Military Spokesman of forces loyal to Dr Riek Machar, Dickson Gatluak has confirmed the fighting. But he denied they first attacked.
