Tito Yak Kuol, the South Sudanese student who made headlines in Kenya this year, has been offered admission at Harvard University, United States.

A student of one of the best secondary schools in Kenya, Alliance High School, Yak was (click here for previous story) ranked among the best students in the 2015 KCSE. He garnered mean score of 84 points, a grade A Plain.

Yak scored A Plain in 7 subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Kiswahili, English, Mathematics, Business Studies, and Christian Religious Education, and A Minus in Physics.

The young scholar received news of his admission via email Tuesday night.

“I’ve literally been crying since 2am when the results came in,” Yak told Eye Radio this morning.

Asked what course he would like to pursue, he said he was still undecided.

“Harvard offers open admission. So I’ve not been admitted on any course. I will be allowed to study any course I want. I don’t want to make a rush choice now,” Yak continued.

However, in an interview with the media early this year, he expressed his wish to study petroleum engineering.

Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusettes, United States.

Established in 1636, its history, influence, and wealth have made it one of the world’s most prestigious universities in the world.

Several leaders including US presidents Barrack Obama and George W Bush are Harvard University graduates.
