Central Equatoria

Residents in Yei River County have rejected a proposed relocation of the county headquarters to Otogo payam.

The Central Equatoria State government wants the county headquarters transferred to Otogo to separate the county from the municipality.

The county residents said at a consultative meeting over the weekend that the transfer could divide the people.

: “We as per now are not ready to take the county to a different location. What we need to do is to prepare ourselves. First of all, taking the county to a specific location means benefiting only that location. We don’t want to divide our people we wanted the unity of our people to be a priority.”

The commissioner of the County, Bidali Cosmas, said the meeting resolved that the county headquarters can only be transferred after creation of new counties by the national government.

“there should be a feasibility study carried out in the four Payams to provide technical information on how smartly they can choose a particular location to host the headquarters of Yei River County .They also resolved that the relocation of the county headquarters should continue to be pending” He said.

Bidali said the views of residents will be presented to the state government.
