WFP resumes airdrop operations

Author : | Published: Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Airdrops of food assistance have resumed in South Sudan after the government temporarily suspended the operations, the World Food Program has told Eye Radio.

The airdrops were cancelled after misunderstanding arose over flight clearances.

WFP spokesperson Challiss McDonough confirmed on Eye Radio twitter account that flights to areas with thousands of people in need of aid resumed on Tuesday morning.

The temporary suspension is among some of the latest obstacles that humanitarian efforts face in South Sudan.

WFP says more than four million people in South Sudan face food insecurity; thousands others continue to flee to the neighboring countries.
