Major roads used to deliver goods to the state have been repaired using contributions from the people and the state government, the Minister of Information in Western Equatoria State has said.

Charles Kisanga says trucks are now able to deliver goods to the markets in the state.

Recently, roads connecting the state capital, Yambio, with the other states and the neighboring countries had been made impassable by heavy rains. It also crippled public transport in the area.

This caused the market prices to skyrocket as few goods were entering the state.

He says people in the state contributed 80,000 South Sudanese pounds to repair the roads.

“The government also put in 20,000 SSP and they also gave workers and some of these trucks have started to arrive in Yambio,” said Mr Kisanga.

He urged the national government to help in building and repairing major roads linking the Western Equatoria to other states and neighboring countries.
