Wau: State gov’t organizes independence day celebrations

The state government in Wau says preparations have been made for the town to host leaders from the national level and the neighboring states during the 6th anniversary of the independence of South Sudan on Monday 10th.

The 6th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of South Sudan falls on Sunday, the Ministry of Labor has declared Monday a public holiday.

Wau state government says all is set for the function to take place in the capital, Wau.

Last week, business people were asked to paint their shops in blue and white colors.

The Mayor of Wau Municipality ordered all shopkeepers in the town to paint their shops blue and white and raise the national flag of the country ahead of independence celebrations.

The order threatens that; anyone who fails to implement the order will pay up to 1,500 South Sudanese Pounds to cover the cost the state government will incur in painting their shop.

Mayor Mel Aleu Gok says the decoration of the town is because they expect guests from the national government and other neighboring states to come to Wau for the celebrations.

Wau State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, James Joseph said national government officials and those from various states will be attending the celebration under the theme: “Security, Peace and co – existence among the communities.”

He called on the security organs in Wau State to maintain public security during the celebrations.

He encouraged the public to turn out to mark the day.

South Sudan gained independence from a United Sudan on 9th July, 2011 after a referendum vote.
